Bring Your Carpets Back To Life With These 8 Useful Cleaning Tips

Dirt and lint can accumulate deep in your carpets over time and the ordeal grows worse whenever a surprise spill occurs. For fresh looking carpets throughout your home, you may want to take some of these professional cleaning tips on board before your carpets get any worse.

Hard-Bristle Brushes
Brushes with hard bristles are ideal for carpets because they will encourage any clogged dirt to rise to the surface. This means you can easily lift the dirt with your vacuum. If you do not brush your carpet before vacuuming, you risk leaving excess dirt clogged deep in your carpet, trapped by the fibres and building up more bacteria over time.

Vacuuming
Carpet cleaning is most effective when you use a good quality vacuum cleaner. Horizontal and vertical movements will ensure that the vacuum reaches every inch of the carpet. For those hard to reach places, use a nozzle attachment or a brush based one to vacuum pet hairs.

Removing Tough Stains
There are some stains that a vacuum cleaner just can’t budge. If you have kids in your house then you may already be familiar with the nightmare of having chewing gum stuck to the carpet. An easy solution is to harden the gum with an ice cube before prying it off, simple.

Carpet Shampoo
Carpet cleaners are not hard to find and they even come in a shampoo format. Make sure to read and follow the label instructions on the bottle before applying it to your carpet. As with all home cleaning products, it is advised to test the solution on a small area first. Once it has been tried and tested, you have the green light to use it on the entire carpet. Scrub gently and leave it to dry before vacuuming.

Powder Cleaning Solutions
You can use baking soda powder or a bought carpet cleaner powder to battle tough stains and spills. The product must have enough time to set and work into the stain which means leaving it for at least 30 minutes. Leaving the solution overnight will work even better as it is more likely to have a chance to lift odours and stains.

Blotting Spills
The best method to tackle a new spill is to blot is gently with a white clean cloth. Scrubbing the spill will only spread it further, setting it deeper into the carpet at the same time. Work your way from the outside of the stain towards the centre for best results. Always use paper towels or a clean white cloth to clean carpet spills as a coloured cloth may leave the dye in your carpet if you are not careful.

Steam Cleaning
Remove as much furniture as possible before you begin to clean your carpets with a steamer. You can rent one of these from most cleaning companies and it is a really great way in which to make your carpets look immaculate. Begin at the furthest area and gradually make your way out the door to avoid stepping on the areas that have already been steamed.

Cleaning Services
Hiring a cleaning company to wash your carpets or rugs is a cost effective solution, especially if you are looking for the best possible results. They will make sure that the job is done right and that all stains are removed in a way that leaves your carpet fibres firmly in tact without any damage. You can search for your nearest cleaning service company online or ask around for recommendations.
